Anna Jurek, child and adolescent counsellor
I am a child and adolescent counsellor, I see clients in Clapham and Dulwich
Children and teens need counselling when they have problems and they can't cope . Or they may need help when problems affect how well they do, feel, or act.
Creative work and play provides a gentle and profound person centred avenue for expression, the counselling relationship helps young people to develop self-awareness, understanding of themselves and relationships.
“It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”
Donald Woods Winnicott (2005). “Playing and Reality”, p.73, Psychology Press
Child & Adolescent Counselling
The counselling helps children and young people to cope with a variety difficulties, such as displaying behaviour that is regarded as a problem by parents or in school, lack of confidence, feeling insecure, withdrawn, anxious, or who have experienced loss through bereavement, loss of a pet, family breakdown, divorce or moving to London and finding it very difficult to adjust.
It also provides an exploration of new ways of coping with difficulties and helps developing a growing sense of confidence and understanding.
I provide sessions for parents and carers to help them to understand their child’s needs and how to respond to them. I show parents are carers new ways of being with their children to support them in a best possible way.
My work is guided by Shanker's Self-reg ®, attachment theory, positive discipline and playfulness. I believe in a magic of play with children and youth.
Learning for parents and professionals
I work with individuals as well as with groups, providing workshops and training for parents and schools.
I work both in a training room and online via webinars and podcasts.
I am available for individual consultations in person or over the phone/ Skype.
Kate, mother of 16 year old girl
Isabella is a different, more emotionally mature child now. She has overcome her anxiety and no longer struggles with starting school every morning. Now she waves ‘goodbye’ to us with a smile (previously she would cry every day). Such a change for us as a family. Anna has also supported me during the period she worked with Isabella (and beyond), giving me tips on how I should be addressing situations at home so that my child is supported consistently."
Joanna, mum of Isabella 5 years old
John, father of 7 year old boy
I would definitely recommend her to any one seeking professional advice for their child"
Monica, mother of a seven year old boy
Sessions with Anna meant that my daughter received help with family issues, understood her anxiety in a helpful way, worked on her self-esteem, learnt the difference between stress & anxiety and ensured that she was able to approach the GCSEs in a calm and rational way"
